Do your healthy habits tend to drop off amidst the hustle and bustle of Christmas? Life can get a bit crazy around now, especially on those days where we’re out seeing people or shopping. Here’s four helpful tips to keep your eating habits on track during those busy outings…
1. Avoid going out hungry!
Have you ever heard the saying ‘fail to plan, plan to fail’? This is very relevant here. Finding yourself desperately hungry whilst shopping means that we are much more likely to be tempted by convenient options that tend to be less than ideal nutritionally, and we tend to eat excessively when we start a meal feeling starved. It’s best to eat a substantial meal beforehand to avoid this.
2. Take healthy snacks with you!
Fresh fruit, a small container of nuts and seeds or some wholegrain crackers are a few great options that are healthy, keep us satisfied between meals and are also easy to eat when you’re on the go.
3. If you plan to eat out, go with a healthy option!
Colourful salad bowls from salad bars, grainy breads filled with veggies and bean-based burritos are just some of the healthy options available. These sorts of meals will keep you fuelled for the rest of the day whilst also keeping you feeling light and energetic, rather than weighed down and lethargic.
4. Keep hydrated!
This tends to be forgotten when we’re busy. To keep energy levels up and avoid headaches, take a water bottle with you and aim to sip it regularly throughout your trip. Some find holding it in their hands useful if it’s difficult to remember.
