Cosmetic Acupuncture
What Is It?
Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial acupuncture, is a practice in traditional Chinese medicine where small needles are inserted into specific points on the face to improve skin health and appearance.
The needles stimulate blood flow and Qi (our body’s vital energy) to the face resulting in increased microcirculation, lymphatic drainage and collagen production, which can help reduce the appearance of sagging, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Additionally, acupuncture also helps to reduce stress and promote overall health and wellness, which can contribute to a more youthful and vibrant appearance.
Is It Painful?
Happily, cosmetic acupuncture is generally not considered to be a painful procedure. The needles used are very fine and are inserted into the skin at a shallow depth, so most people only experience a mild sensation or a feeling of pressure which they often describe as a buzzing sensation. Some people, however, may experience a slight pinch or tingling sensation, but this is usually brief and not uncomfortable.
After the treatment there may be some slight redness or bruising around the insertion points, but this is typically mild and temporary. Overall, cosmetic acupuncture is generally considered to be a gentle and relaxing procedure.
How Long Do the Effects Last?
The duration of the effects of cosmetic acupuncture can vary depending on a number of factors, such as a person’s age, skin condition, and overall health. Most people notice the effects instantly due to the body’s natural healing process. Typically, the effects of a single treatment may last for a few days to a week. For more prolonged benefits Anna recommends undertaking a series of treatments over a period of several weeks to achieve longer-lasting results.
To maintain the effects of cosmetic acupuncture, it is often recommended to have occasional “maintenance” treatments every few months. It is important to note that the effects of cosmetic acupuncture are not permanent and will eventually diminish over time, so it is important to have realistic expectations and to continue practicing good skincare habits and have a healthy diet.
