Why Movement Matters!

Movement is a fundamental part of every process and function within the body! Our bodies are designed to move, in all different directions and we all know that movement is good for us, however, what many of us don’t realise is that movement is not only an integral part of our physical fitness, strength and endurance but also of our thought processes, emotions, thinking and understanding, decision making and much more.

I know this is a classic saying, however, some movement is better than no movement, and we have decided to help you move this month by setting up a challenge for all of us this October!

All you need is as little as 10-15 minutes of movement a day, which can drastically benefit many different aspects of your health.  Including …

1. Mood & Energy Levels

Movement helps to boost your mood through reducing chemicals within the body which contribute to depressive feelings as well as releasing endorphins, which are natural mood lifters helping the brain to feel happy, confident, and capable.Movement also helps to increase levels of dopamine, adrenaline, and endocannabinoid which are additional chemicals which help to balance energy, reduce stress, inflammation, appetite and more… which brings me to my next point.

2. Movement is Medicine

Movement can be the best form of medicine as it helps to decrease joint pain and delays onset of physical decline in all populations. Movement helps to strengthen you immune system as well as helps to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight and therefore reducing the risk of co-morbidities.

3. Increased Brain Activity

Movement helps to supply the brain cells with oxygen, promoting production of new brain cells and encourages brain plasticity by stimulating the growth of new connections between these cells and many important cortical areas of the brain.

 4. Improves Sleep

Movement also helps to improve sleep and sleep quality. Movement helps specifically to reduce the amount of time it takes a person to fall asleep, decrease the amount of time they lie awake in bed of a nighttime and the quality of their sleep.

So, now you know all the facts and benefits of regular movement in our day-to-day life. Join us in participating in the October Challenge and lets move more and STOP BEING STATIC!
